Restoring An Old Picnic Table
Restoring an Old Picnic Table
Gather the Necessary Supplies
If you want to restore an old picnic table, you are going to need to gather the necessary supplies. Start by gathering sandpaper, wood putty, primer, paint, and paintbrushes. You will also need a screwdriver and a hammer to take apart the picnic table and to put it back together. Additionally, you will need a drop cloth to protect the area around the picnic table.
Sand the Table
Once you have all the supplies you need, it is time to start sanding the table. Start with a coarse sandpaper to get rid of any old paint or varnish that may still be on the table. Work your way up to a finer sandpaper to make sure that the table is smooth. Make sure you get into all the nooks and crannies of the table.
Fill in the Holes
Now that the table is sanded, it is time to fill in any holes that may be on the surface. Use wood putty to fill in any holes. Make sure that you smooth out the putty so that it is even with the surface of the table. Allow the putty to dry for at least a few hours before you move on to the next step.
Prime the Table
Once the putty is dry, you can start to prime the table. Use a good quality primer to protect the wood and make sure that the paint adheres to it. Make sure you get into all the nooks and crannies of the table. Allow the primer to dry for at least a few hours before you move on.
Paint the Table
Now that the table is primed, it is time to start painting. Choose a color that you like and apply it to the table. Make sure you paint in long, even strokes. Allow the paint to dry for at least a few hours before you move on.
Reassemble the Table
Now that the table is painted, it is time to reassemble it. Use your screwdriver and hammer to put the table back together. Make sure all the screws are tightened so that the table is secure. Once the table is reassembled, you can enjoy your newly restored picnic table!
